This is the Full English Breakfast:
It consists of sausage, bacon (not regular American bacon, "Canadian" bacon, only of course they don't call it that), hash browns, toast, eggs, grilled tomato, mushrooms, baked beans, and black pudding. It is EVERYWHERE, most restaurants serve it, and I've seen it on post cards, t-shirts, you name it. The Brits love it.
At first it doesn't sound so bad - I'm not a big fan of the sausage and bacon, but hash browns, eggs, and toast? Sure. Baked beans I don't really even like at a BBQ, so for breakfast? Not really my thing. But the worst breakfast offender is the black pudding. Here is a description from Wikipedia: "Black pudding (a.k.a. blood pudding or blood sausage) is a type of sausage made by cooking blood or dried blood with a filler until it's thick enough to congeal when cooled. In Europe, typical fillers include meat, fat, suet (also fat), bread, sweet potato, onion, chestnuts, barley, and oatmeal."
Mmmm! Who wants breakfast?!

ReplyDeleteI never could stomach the English breakfast either. I have always found it easy to pass on that "temptation".
